In 1802 during an excavation of the catacombs in Rome, a rare intact tomb was found with markings indicating that the tomb was for a noble virgin named Philomena who was martyred around the age of 13 in the beginning of the 4th Century. After her remains were relocated to a shrine near Naples, the miracles began, and people were cured from cancer, blindness, lameness, and heart problems. St. Philomena has been venerated by a long list of saints, blesseds, and popes, including St. Frances Cabrini, St. Padre Pio, St. Peter Julian Eymard, St. Pope Pius X, Pope Leo XIII, and Blessed Pope Pius IX who personally experienced a miraculous cure due to her intercession.
CHALLENGE
Exorcists have said that demons despise the invocation of St. Philomena, and St. John Vianney had a strong devotion to St. Philomena, calling her “the New Light of the Church Militant”. We are all part of the Church Militant in our fight against the powers of darkness. Today, call upon St. Philomena, and pray for her intercession to strengthen all members of the Church Militant, especially priests, bishops, and the pope.
