Salvio Miralpéix was born in Spain in 1877, and his wealthy parents made their faith the center of their lives. When he was 10, Salvio declared he wanted to be a priest and left home for the seminary. After being ordained at 26, he served as the pastor to 2 rural parishes, but he had too much energy and too little work, so he entered an oratory where their day started at 4:30 in the morning. He said Mass, heard confessions, catechized children, and tended to the sick. Made a bishop, he served for 8 years until during the Spanish civil war he was turned over to Communists by the police. He ministered to the prisoners until he and 20 other lay Catholics were made to dig their own graves, and then were martyred for their faith.
CHALLENGE
Blessed Salvio Miralpéix started an apostolate for married men to make them more active in their faith life, because he understood how important it is for the family. Today, men, assess your faith life and step it up another notch or two. Women, encourage your husbands, fathers, and other men in your life to be more active in their faith life. Everyone, pray for St. Joseph's intercession for all husbands and fathers.
