Peter Julian Eymard was born in the French Alps in 1811. Despite the anti-Catholic fallout from the French Revolution, he grew up with a strong devotion to Mary and the Eucharist. One time when he was about 5 he wandered away from home, and his family found him near the tabernacle at their parish. When they approached he said, "Sssshhhhh. I'm listening to Jesus." After completing seminary he was ordained a diocesan priest at 23. Dissatisfied with parish work, he joined the Marists, and worked with lay organizations to promote Marian and Eucharistic devotions, especially the 40 Hours Devotion. He founded the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament for men and Servants of the Blessed Sacrament for women, and wrote extensively on the Eucharist.
CHALLENGE
St. Peter Julian Eymard wrote: "He loves, He hopes, He waits... Our Lord prefers to wait Himself for the sinner for years rather than keep him waiting one instant." Jesus is waiting for you, right now. Don't keep him waiting any longer. Today, go to Mass or Eucharistic adoration.
