William was a fun-loving musician who doesn't have much of back story, except we know he was a poet laureate on the Court of the Holy Roman Emperor in the late 12th Century. Then one day in 1212 he heard St. Francis of Assisi preach, and that was all it took. William asked to be admitted to St. Francis' new order, and St. Francis accepted him, giving him the name Pacificus. Brother Pacificus travelled with St. Francis for a while, then he was sent to France in 1217 to spread the Gospel. Nine years later, Brother Pacificus returned to Italy, witnessed the stigmata of St. Francis, and gave spiritual direction to the Poor Clares of Siena before he was sent back to France where he preached until he died.
CHALLENGE
Blessed Pacificus experienced an ecstasy where he was shown heaven. He saw many empty seats, but one was adorned and higher than the others. A voice told him, "This was the seat of Lucifer, and in his place will be seated the humble Francis." Which seat will you occupy in heaven? When God sees you, does he see humility... or pride? Today, recite the Litany of Humility, which you can find at https://catholictreehouse.com/prayers/#toc2.
